Happy Wheels has just been released right as the tragic, blasphemous end of Flash approaches. That was a close call! We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Hopefully, the worry over losing Happy Wheels hasn’t prevented you from getting a good night’s sleep. If you weren’t aware that this project was in development, here’s some great news: this marks the game’s first public release. Please bear with us as we work to fix any remaining bugs.
Although I still prefer the Flash version, what I appreciate about this new release is its excellent performance on mobile devices. Currently, however, on-screen mobile controls are not yet included—that feature will be added in the next update. Thank you for your patience. If you’re eager to try the game on your phone sooner, using a Bluetooth keyboard works very well.
Although I previously mentioned that the game would run at 60 frames per second, some of the more challenging stages can experience noticeable slowdowns at that rate. Fortunately, this setting is adjustable, and I may host a version running at 60 Hz on a separate page for users with very powerful CPUs.
The rest of Happy Wheels JS aims to faithfully replicate the original in both design and gameplay. The database of users, levels, and replays remains unchanged from the original release. The only thing lost is the impending doom of the universe’s end.
