ARMA, stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military shooter games initially developed for Microsoft Windows. Renowned for its emphasis on realism and simulation, the series combines large-scale military operations spanning extensive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The franchise’s debut installment was released in 2006, with subsequent titles continuing to evolve through 2013. Over time, ARMA titles have expanded their availability to include platforms such as Linux, Android, and iOS.
The first game, titled ARMA: Armed Assault—also known as ARMA: Combat Operations in the United States—was launched for Microsoft Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by a European release in February 2007 and a U.S. release in May 2007. This installment utilized the Real Virtuality 2 engine.
ARMA 3, the latest major release in the series, is a standalone title released for Microsoft Windows on September 12, 2013. It was initially available to the public through Steam’s Early Access program starting March 5, 2013. Powered by the advanced Real Virtuality 4 engine, ARMA 3 also saw early releases for Linux and Mac OS between late 2015 and early 2016, with plans to synchronize features across all platforms later.
